Henry

Henry is the shadow of our sanctuary.

An older, cross-eyed black cat, he first appeared on our front porch looking for food. After multiple failed attempts, we finally managed to trap him and bring him to safety. Neutering reduced the size of his pumpkin-sized head, but it remains impressively large and one of his most recognizable features.

Henry spent years surviving on his own and never had anyone to care for him. Unlike many of our cats, he has never been interested in human affection. In fact, he is famous for avoiding people whenever possible. Yet over time, he has learned that sanctuary life has its advantages.

These days, Henry enjoys plentiful food, clean water, protection from predators, shelter from Florida's harsh weather, and freedom from the fleas, ticks, parasites, and constant dangers of life outdoors. He spends his days roaming the secure backyard, relaxing on his favorite chair in the screened lanai, or sleeping peacefully beneath my bed.

While we may never get to cuddle or pet Henry, that doesn't mean he isn't loved. After spending years fighting to survive every single day, Henry deserves something far better: a life of comfort, safety, and peace.
